Homemade Bathroom Cleaners

A Greener Home Part 3

Cleaning the bathrooms is one of my biggest chores with 2 boys and a husband...I need cleaners that work, kill germs and don't make me loopy in the process.....I also don't like to flush all those toxic chemicals down the drain.....not to mention  the savings when you make your own.  I have found that you can clean the whole bathroom with 4 ingredients,  soda, vinegar, alcohol and borax.  This post also includes the directions for how to make a wonderful Natural Air-Freshener that works for months........

Directions:
No measurements needed just layer baking soda,

a few drops of essential oil
and dried Lavender,  Jasmine or Cinnamon chips.

Cover with cheese cloth and secure with a rubber band, add a cute ribbon and you done:)

In my quest for all natural cleaners I have tried a lot of different recipes.
The following recipes are the ones that made the grade at my house.

I love the Tub and Tile cleaner, it works even better than
the foaming bubble stuff that I used to use.

And the window cleaner is equally amazing.  $ store brands can be watered down and the name brands are expensive I made this window cleaner for around 50 cents.

Basic ingredients you will need:
(for the following recipes)
Borax
Dish Soap
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Rubbing Alcohol
Water
Essential oils
(Pine, Tea Tree)

Window Cleaner Recipe:

1 c. rubbing alcohol

1 c. vinegar
1 c. water
4 tsp. dish soap
(I used a blue soap so my cleaner looks blue)

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle.
Use as you would the name brand window cleaner.

Tub and Tile Cleaner Recipe:

1 tsp. borax
1/2 tsp. dish soap
2 c. boiling water
3 Tbs. vinegar
15 drops of essential oil(like pine)

5 drops of tea tree oil
Directions:

In a glass or metal bowl add hot water to the borax and dish soap stir until dissolved.  Now add the vinegar and oils.  Let cool completely before pouring into a spray bottle.  Use to clean tubs toilets and counter tops.  Spray on allow to set for a few minutes and then whip and rinse.

Grout Cleaner Recipe:
1/2 c. borax
1/2 c. baking soda
1/3 c. vinegar
6 drops of essential oil
Directions:
Mix soda, borax and essential oil then add vinegar and stir.  Place in an airtight container and label.  It is best to make this the day you are planning to use it.  Apply to grout lines and let set for 10 minutes then scrub using a scrub brush and rinse.

To clean toilets:
Simply sprinkle on some baking soda and squirt on some vinegar.  Allow to set and scrub as usual.  I used an empty Parmesan cheese container for the baking soda and a mustard bottle for the vinegar.

  5. This blog of yours looks so inviting and full of goodies. I have just come from Domesblissity in Australia and I'm going to save reading any more until tonight where I can settle in and learn from your hints and recipes. I do not cook much now only essentials. Kind of got over it. Thank you for the time you must put into your posts. I'll be back!

  6. Love the container idea for the toilets. I just might have both on hand. I've been reading a book called Down to Earth by Rhonda Hetzel. She suggests having a cleaning "kit" each for the bathroom and kitchen. I had a medium size jug of vinegar, but a mustard squirtee will work sooo much better (and smaller to store as well!).
